Teaching Team

Johnny is the Head of Distance Learning and on the Senior Management Team. He also leads all the staff who are not directly associated with one of the communities.

Johnny Smith

Distance Learning Coordinator

40% of the curriculum! That is a big responsibility. My job is to make sure that the online school works seamlessly with the real school. I have great IT skills, understand about creating virtual learning environments and can trouble-shoot my way out of most technical issues without calling on an IT professional. I am also a friendly guy with an outgoing personality. I need this because I have to talk to teachers from primary through to Sixth Form, making sure that their parts of the Distance School work and are constantly evolving. Big job? Yes, but I am ambitious and talented. And this is the future!

IT Teacher

IT Teacher

I’m an experienced IT teacher. This is a small school covering a large age range, but I am up to the challenge. I can offer classes to the upper levels that will lead them to recognized qualifications. I can also work with the junior and elementary school teachers to ensure that those kids are getting the most out of ITC. Sometimes that involves helping out with projects and activities. I am really flexible about this because it is so much fun. I particularly like getting the young kids involved with robotics

SENCO

SENCO

Like the other members of my team, I work right across the school. I ensure that the Principal is informed about all students who have identified Special Educational Needs. We take SEN seriously in this school and adapt our teaching and methods so that no one is left behind because of a disability or learning difficulty. Sometimes I can administer tests myself in the department. Other times we call in Educational Psychologists from outside to run assessments. When we have an assessment we devise an Individual Education Plan. We frequently review IEPs and the Principal is directly involved in this process since he is the person ultimately responsible for the welfare of all children in the school.

Nurse

Nurse

I’m a fully qualified school nurse. I maintain the health records of all children. I am responsible for storing any prescription medications that children need to have access during the day. We cannot administer medication of any kind within the school but I ensure that we have contact with a local health service in case of emergency. If a child falls sick, that child will come to the nurse’s room to be quiet until family can come to pick them up. I am fully First Aid trained and offer training to all staff prior to the beginning of each term. I also coordinate with the Science and PE departments to offer health education to children at all ages. I love going into the classrooms and talking with the kids.

PE Teacher

PE Teacher

Health is right there in the Mission Statement of the school. I am here to encourage children of all ages to engage in physical exercise, to get active and to play sports if they want to. I love my job. I can be working with six-year-olds in the morning and sixteen-year-olds in the afternoon. I am a part of the whole school teaching team because I work across phases. That is great with me because I love talking to different people and am passionate about getting them physically active and healthy! When the school grows there will also be a Marine Sports teacher.

Guide Mindfulness

Guide Mindfulness

Like the other members of this team I work across the school. Not everyone knows what mindfulness is, so one part of my job is to raise this awareness. I work closely with the SENCO, the PE teacher and the Nurse in bringing the benefits of mindfulness to all levels of the school. Parents are also interested in the principles of mindfulness and I assist the Principal and the Parental Engagement coordinators at all levels in constructing a program of events through the school year that includes mindfulness.

Farmer Educator

Farmer Educator

The farm is an essential part of the curriculum at MBAT at all levels. It takes some tough scheduling to ensure that all the children in the school have a realistic opportunity to do something meaningful on the farm. There is animal care, tending the plants and vegetables and learning about the maintenance of equipment. I help class teachers to set up projects and run some sessions myself. If a child becomes seriously interested in farming I may take them under my wing as a kind of apprentice. We like to give people a chance to express their interests in this school from planting things in the greenhouse when they are little to running some serious scientific experiments when they are teenagers. I can help with all of that.
